FAN POLL: Mweene only Zambian to make combined XI
As the build-up to Saturday's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier continues, Nigeria fans are so confident in the superiority of their team that Kennedy Mweene was the only Zambian considered good enough to make a combined XI.
Following Wednesday's Super Eagles training session, KweséESPN straw-polled some of the fans and media who had come to watch, to name a combined XI of the best players from both sides.
Chipolopolo goalkeeper Mweene was the only Zambian player to get a sizeable vote. Midfielder Rainford Kalaba got a few mentions, but the TP Mazembe star is not in the squad to face Nigeria this weekend after falling out with coach Wedson Nyirenda.
"Apart from the goalkeeper, I don't think any other Zambian player can get a shirt in this Super Eagles team," Super Eagles fan Ubong Michael told KweséESPN. "Who will they bench? Even our bench is better than their first team!"
With the Nigeria players refusing to be drawn into a war of words with Zambia, it does appear the Super Eagles fans have picked up the mantle.
And should the Nigerian players display even half the confidence of their loyal -- if not demanding -- supporters, the Super Eagles will easily get the three points to book their ticket to Russia 2018.
Combined Nigeria/Zambia XI: Kennedy Mweene, Shehu Abdullahi, Elderson Echiejile, Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong; Wilfred Ndidi, Ogenyi Onazi, Mikel Obi; Victor Moses, Moses Simon, Odion Ighalo
