Ryan Lowry, Hamish Watson, Sarpreet Singh earn new Phoenix contracts

Wellington striker Hamish Watson
Hamish Watson has made 29 appearances for the Wellington Phoenix, scoring five goals.

Wellington's as-yet unnamed new coach has been active in the recruitment process as next season's A-League roster begins to take shape.

Two re-signings were announced on Thursday by the Phoenix, with central defender Ryan Lowry and striker Hamish Watson both extending their contracts for two years.

The 18-year-old central midfielder Sarpreet Singh, in action for New Zealand at the under-20 World Cup in South Korea, has secured a three-year contract.

The Phoenix are yet to announce their new coach for next season, club general manager David Dome saying only that a Europe-based manager would be confirmed next week pending immigration clearance.

Reports have named Swiss-born Bosnian Darije Kalezic, who has coached in the Dutch and Belgian first divisions, as the new signing.

The Phoenix said on Thursday the new coach had been involved in the recruitment process for next season, with more signings and re-signings set to be announced.

Wellington struggled to finish seventh last season with coach Ernie Merrick resigning after eight weeks.

Assistant coaches Chris Greenacre and Des Buckingham took over in a stop-gap capacity, missing out when they were interviewed for the permanent position.
