Gor Mahia identify Batambuze as Walusimbi replacement

Vipers SC sack Miguel Da Costa

Vipers Sports Club have confirmed the departure of head coach Miguel Jorge Da Costa, only a month after he guided them to the Ugandan Premier League title.

Da Costa's Vipers also reached the final of the Ugandan Cup, where they were defeated by KCCA FC.

"I can confirm that after looking through several things as the club goes through a restructuring process we have parted ways with Da Costa," Abdul Wasike, the club's spokesman told KweséESPN on Tuesday.

"The club will pay him compensation since he had not served his full contract."

Da Costa joined Vipers in March 2017, and also helped the club to the quarter final of the CECAFA Kagame Club where they were defeated by Gor Mahia in Dar es Salaam last week.

"Vipers SC would like to thank Coach Da Costa for his commitment and service to the club and wishes him success in his career advancement going forward," added a club statement.

Before winning the title this season, Da Costa took Vipers to a third-placed finish in the UPL last term. They were also defeated by South Africa's Platinum Stars in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Da Costa refused to add any details about his dismissal when asked by KweséESPN.

The 38-year old contended with some disciplinary issues in April when the Uganda Football Association's Competitions Disciplinary Panel suspended him for four matches because he reportedly confronted and attacked match officials during a league match away to Bidco FC at the Kakindu Stadium.

During his playing career, Da Costa spent three seasons with Portuguese giants FC Porto.
