Wonderkid Muhammad Shaban bags four as KCCA rout URA FC 7-2

Muhammad Shaban netted four goals as defending Ugandan champions KCCA FC returned to winning ways with a 7-2 demolition of URA FC in top-flight action on Tuesday.

The wonderkid, who was the top scorer at the 2017 COSAFA U-20 Cup, is proving to be one of the key protagonists in the Super League run-in, having also netted the opener against his former club Onduparaka last week.

Allan Okello, Paul Mucureezi and Patrick Kaddu scored the other goals for coach Mike Mutebi's side as they closed the gap to their title rivals to one point and boosted their prospects of retaining the title.

Jimmy Kulaba and Saidi Kyeyune scored for eighth-placed URA FC, whose coach Paul Nkata resigned after the game.

"Yes it was a seven-star performance but we played at 40%," said Mutebi. "I still believe today we wasted many chances, because we should have scored 12.

"We are still very careless because we gave away cheap goals," he added. "URA could also have scored about five because they created the chances."

Third-placed KCCA will meet league leaders Vipers Sports Club later this week and begin the contest one point behind their rivals with significantly better goal difference.

Vipers are top on 49 points, level with second-placed SC Villa.

"This was a very good win going into the game on Friday," he added. "Scoring many goals gives me satisfaction because I know this league will go to the wire and goal difference could come into play."

Vipers SC moved to the top of the league after a 3-1 win over bottom-placed Masavu FC in a game played in Kitende.

The home side, whose head coach Jorge Da Costa is serving a four-match suspension after attacking match officials in a previous match, started intensely, but missed several scoring chances.

Tom Masiko put Vipers SC ahead after 32 minutes with a free kick, but Ivan Lubaale levelled matters after 70 minutes to rattle the heavyweights' nerves.

Pius Wangi added a second for Vipers before Milton Karisa made sure of the victory late on.

"This was a very difficult game for us, but I am happy with picked maximum points," Karisa told KweséESPN.

In Tuesday's other games, Proline FC moved up to 13th place after a 3-1 win over Soana FC.

Daniel Opolot Isiagi netted a brace and Gift Ali the third for Proline, while Allan Kayiwa was on the scoresheet for 12th-placed Soana FC.

Army side UPDF FC also moved to 11th after a 1-0 victory over Bidco FC.
