Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League: Platinum look to wrap up title at Maglas

The small town of Zvishavane could rock to the sound of title celebrations once more on Sunday as FC Platinum face already relegated Shabanie Mine needing just a draw to make it back-to-back Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League title triumphs.

Platinum have amassed 71 points, nine more than second-placed Ngezi Platinum going into the last three matches of the campaign, and they are expected to easily dispatch ailing derby rivals Shabanie in this weekend's round of fixtures.

It was only the third goal Ngezi have conceded...

Despite the talk of a spot in the group stages - and even of a faint title tilt - it remains to be seen whether the ambitious Zvishavane-based outfit have the firepower to see off the Angolans, let alone either Bidvest Wits or Mauritians Pamplemousses FC in the next round.

FC Platinum's continental assault begins with Angolan examination

Reigning Zimbabwean champions FC Platinum have made no secret of their desire to reach the CAF Champions League, but can they bypass a stern test in the preliminary round when they face Angolan side C.D. Primeiro de Agosto?

In recent years, Zimbabwean Premier League sides have struggled when up against opponents from their COSAFA near-neighbours, but ambitious FC Platinum may have the resources to ensure a reversal of fortunes.

Last term, Ngezi Platinum were eliminated from the CAF Confederation...
