Kabaso nets twice as Zambia down Ivory Coast

Augustine Kabaso netted twice as Zambia beat the Ivory Coast 2-0 in Marrakech to take a major step towards the African Nations Championship quarter finals.

Kabaso, one of the stars of the tournament, netted once in each half - both goals coming after sterling work from Ernest Mbewe - as Zambia made it two wins out of two.

Having lost both matches, Ivory Coast now need to beat Uganda in their final match and hope other results go their way to progress, although they will be eliminated if Namibia...

Experience underpins Chipolopolo's CHAN challenge

Several fresh Zambian faces caught the eye in the Chipolopolo's African Nations Championship opener on Sunday, with Lazarous Kambole notably marking his debut with a Man of the Match display.

As well as winning the CAF award, the ZESCO United forward also opened the scoring for Wedson Nyirenda's side, and delivered a bright showing before tiring somewhat during the second period.

The more established Fackson Kapumbu is already a prominent figure within the national side, and was named in the shortlist...

Ochan misery as Zambia beat Uganda

Uganda goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan endured an evening to forget as the Cranes were defeated 3-1 by Zambia in their African Nations Championship opener.

The East Africans were already trailing 2-1 when, in the 72nd minute, Ochan mishandled Fackson Kapumbu's ambitious free kick from range and, stepping back, allowed the ball to bounce over the line.

It was the standout moment in a miserable evening for Uganda, who largely enjoyed the better of the first half, and were twice unfortunate to concede.

Chipolopolo's new breed making their mark in Europe

Zambia international Emmanuel Banda scored his first goal in the Belgian top flight as KV Oostende beat Waasland Beveren 3-1 on Friday to add his name to a growing band of Chipolopolo stars who have been impressing in Europe this term.

Banda, who joined Oostende in June, has just regained full fitness after an injury-ravaged start to life in Belgium, and netted his team's second soon after the break from an assist by Knowledge Musona. The Zimbabwe skipper had opened the scoring himself on the quarter-hour.

Ex-Zambia U-17 star Changwe Kalale dies on birthday

Former Zambia U-17 star Changwe Kalale has passed away in Lusaka on his birthday, just over three years to the day after being involved in a bus crash that left him paralysed.

According to the Lusaka Times, the ex-midfielder passed away at the University Teaching Hospital on Sunday morning.

"Changwe died on Sunday morning around 09:00 hours," his father, Ben Kalale, told the Lusaka Times. "[The] funeral is at our home in Chambishi on the Copperbelt."
