At the beginning of 2018, Zack Steffen hadn't played a minute for the United States men's national team. At the club level, he had been a starter with the Columbus Crew for just a single season, and the team's future in Ohio was very much in doubt.
Goalkeeper Zack Steffen has been named U.S. Men's National Team Player of the Year.
Steffen, 23, enjoyed a stellar 2018 for both club and country. He made 32 league and playoff appearances for the Columbus Crew, recording 11 shutouts along with a goals-against average of 1.28. It was enough for him to be named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.
Steffen also made significant strides at international level. He made his international debut on Jan. 28, coming on at halftime in a 0-0 draw against Bosnia & Herzegovina....
