Goat halts play in Sudan Premier League

While we regularly hear the likes of Lionel Messi referred to as 'The GOAT' (as in, the Greatest Of All Time) it's not often that his literal counterparts make their presence felt on a football pitch.

However, in what must surely be a world first, an actual goat did manage to bring play to a shuddering halt during the Sudan Premier League match between Al Shorta and Al Hilal Omdurman.

Understandably, both sets of players looked on utterly bemused as the security staff desperately attempted to round...

How can East Africa compete with the rest of the continent?

While East Africa's nations have enjoyed great success in other sporting disciplines, the region's national football teams have largely failed to make a mark on the continent's soccer scene.

Kenya and Ethiopia have a plethora of elite long and middle-distance runners, Rwanda has its cycling sensations., Uganda boasts of a thriving motosports scene, while even South Sudan's roster of basketball stars grows every year.

East Africa is as sports mad and trophy-hungry as the rest of the continent, but...

AS Vita Club advance in Champions League; Al-Merrikh crash out

Congolese giants AS Vita Club were among a number of high-profile clubs to advance to the second round of the CAF Champions League on Wednesday, but Sudanese heavyweights Al-Merrikh were one of several big clubs to fall at the first hurdle.

Les Dauphins Noirs, African champions in 1973, won 2-1 away at Mighty Wanderers of Malawi to take the tie 6-1 on aggregate and establish themselves as one of the teams to watch this season.

In contrast, Sudanese side Al-Merrikh claimed a 2-1 victory over Botswana...

Giant-killing Township Rollers hope to become African giant

Township Rollers made an emphatic statement of their potential at the weekend when they coasted to a stunning 3-0 victory over Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh in Gaborone in the CAF Champions League on Saturday.

Their Serbian coach, Nikola Kavazovic, believes the club have the ability to become a 'giant' on the continent, and that this may be the first step in proving that.

Botswana clubs have recently opted out of African club competition, their lack of competitiveness and the huge costs associated...

Sudan dispatch Libya on penalties to take CHAN bronze

Sudan beat Libya 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in Sunday's African Nations Championship third-placed playoff in Marrakech.

The Falcons of Jediane took the lead in the eighth minute through youngster Waala Musa's header.

However, Libya, who enjoyed the better of the contest, equalised in the 84th minute when substitute Salem Ablo headed past Akram after a defensive mixup.

While Sudan converted all four of their spotkicks in the shootout, Elmehdi Mohamed Elhouni missed his shot - Libya's second...
