Portugal, Spain could have World Cup group places decided by drawing of lots

The FC crew agree Spain and Portugal's draw in their opening match at the World Cup proved they are both a class above the rest of Group B.
Spain's Gerard Pique reflects on his 100 caps for Spain and insists the team will create even more history at the 2018 World Cup.

Portugal and Spain's fate in the World Cup could go down to the luck of the draw if they finish with identical records in Group B.

Spain currently sit on top of the group by virtue of receiving one fewer yellow card than their neighbours after two matches. Both nations have scored four goals and conceded three, while they drew 3-3 with each other in their opening game.

If Spain beat Morocco and Portugal defeat Iran by the same scoreline on Monday, then they will still have identical records...

KALININGRAD, Russia -- Spain will be looking for their unlikely new World Cup figurehead Diego Costa to strike again against already eliminated Morocco on Monday as they bid to outscore Portugal and grab top spot in Group B.

A draw in Kaliningrad would guarantee the 2010 winners safe passage into the last 16 but to be assured of winning the group they need to win a scoring contest with Portugal, who play Iran at the same time.

If the two European sides win by the same scoreline, top spot will be...

Don Hutchison says while Spain narrowly defeated Iran, there was always going to be one winner in the match.
Spain managed to walk away with three points against Iran, but the FC crew explain how Iran managed to disrupt La Roja.
Spain's Gerard Pique reflects on his 100 caps for Spain and insists the team will create even more history at the 2018 World Cup.

The first World Cup matches of the day have provided some real eye-openers -- unless, of course, you're Koke.

The Spain midfielder said that he and his teammates have traditionally missed the early kickoffs because they interfere with their siesta.

"We watch other games as we can," Koke told El Pais. "The first coincides with our siesta hour and the second with training. We only get to see the third during dinner."

That means they've missed out on the delight of Japan's win over 10-man Colombia...

Spain manager Fernando Hierro makes it clear vs. Iran: This is his team now

Spain managed to walk away with three points against Iran, but the FC crew explain how Iran managed to disrupt La Roja.

KAZAN, Russia -- "I'm the national team coach," said Fernando Hierro, pausing for a moment before adding: "We have to get used to that." He stopped again, laughed a little and then said: "We all do, don't we?"

It had taken a good few days and it had taken a match or two as well, standing there on the touchline, but now it seemed that he at least was doing just that. Late on Wednesday night in Kazan, Spain had just defeated Iran 1-0. It was Hierro's second game in charge but there was something...
