Recreativo face TP Mazembe in Confederation Cup quarters

Recreativo Libolo
Recreativo Libolo

A goalless draw was enough to see Recreativo Libolo of Angola secure the last spot in the African Confederation Cup quarter-finals.

But they now face holders TP Mazembe Englebert of the Democratic Republic of Congo in September's knockout round.

Libolo needed only a point at home to Smouha of Egypt on Sunday to ensure progress from Group C, which had been cast into turmoil after leaders Al Hilal Obayed were disqualified when FIFA suspended Sudan on Thursday.

It left Zesco United with a bye at the...

Spain rally late to salvage draw at England; Italy and Germany goalless

Spain rallied with two late goals to salvage a 2-2 draw with England in a friendly at Wembley on Tuesday.

Adam Lallana opened the scoring for England from the penalty spot, the Liverpool man playing a whipped-in pass to spring Jamie Vardy in Spain's penalty area, and he was taken down by Pepe Reina with the referee pointing immediately to the spot.

Lallana stepped up and calmly fired home past Reina to put England up 1-0. It was the third goal in as many international matches for Lallana, who was...

Senegal and Egypt win to secure African Nations Cup qualification

Liverpool star man Mohamed Salah will represent Egypt at this summer's World Cup.
Mohamed Salah scored twice as Egypt booked their place at the African Nations Cup.

Egypt and Senegal qualified for the African Nations Cup thanks to wins against Tanzania and Burundi.

First-half goals from Premier League duo Sadio Mane and Mame Biram Diouf sealed a 2-0 win for Senegal at Burundi and ensured they will win Group K, having won five games from five, scoring 11 times and conceding just twice.

The other game in that group saw Namibia run out 1-0 winners against Niger with Peter Shalulile's 15th-minute goal settling the game.

Meanwhile, a Mohamed Salah brace resolved...

Ghana frustrated by Mozambique in ANC qualifying stalemate

Ghana head coach Avram Grant has been roundly criticised for not spending very much time in the country.
Avram Grant's side failed to take their opportunities against Mozambique.

Ghana were left to rue missed chances as they were held to a 0-0 Group H draw by a Mozambique side who earned their first point of the qualifying campaign.

Aston Villa striker Jordan Ayew failed to convert a close-range opportunity for Avram Grant's group leaders as the game approached its final 15 minutes, Leicester striker Jeffrey Schlupp fired wide and Ebenezer Assifuah powered a header off target.

But Ghana also had cause to be grateful to defender John Boye, who made fine interceptions to prevent...

Ghana defeat Mozambique in African Nations Cup qualifying

Ghana defeated Mozambique 3-1 in Accra in a 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier on Thursday.

Frank Acheampong gave the hosts the lead after just four minutes before leaving the game with an injury, while John Boye and Jordan Ayew added second-half goals.

Apson Majante pulled a goal back for the visitors, but Ghana made it three wins from three in Group H, midway through the qualifying campaign.
