Didier Deschamps satisfied with win but says France 'could've scored more'

France coach Didier Deschamps felt his side had done exactly what was required with a 3-1 win at Luxembourg which sees them remain clear at the top of World Cup qualifying Group A.

Following Sweden's 4-0 win over Belarus earlier on Saturday, there was little margin for error against the European minnows at Stade Josy Barthel.

Olivier Giroud put Les Bleus ahead after 28 minutes, but Luxembourg soon drew level from the penalty spot through Aurelien Joachim.

France saw off a spirited challenge from Luxembourg to win 3-1 at Stade Josy Barthel and stay clear at the top of World Cup qualifying Group A.

Les Bleus took the lead through a close-range finish from Olivier Giroud before both teams won penalties in the space of four first-half minutes.

Aurelien Joachim drew Luxembourg level from the spot in the 34th minute after Blaise Matuidi pushed over Daniel Da Mota.

Da Mota, though, then quickly gave away another penalty at the other end when he tripped Djibril...

Memphis Depay scored two second-half goals to spare Netherlands' blushes in a 3-1 World Cup qualifying win in Luxembourg.

Manchester United winger Depay struck in the 58th and 84th minutes after replacing Wesley Sneijder at the interval to lift Netherlands above Sweden into second place in Group A.

It was a far from convincing display by Danny Blind's side, who opened the scoring after 36 minutes through Arjen Robben, only to be pegged back by Luxembourg just before the break when defender Maxine...

Ten-man Luxembourg claimed their first point in World Cup European Qualifying Group A as Aurelien Joachim's late free-kick secured them a 1-1 draw against Belarus in Borisov.

The visitors had Dirk Carlson sent off in the 44th minute and looked set for their third straight defeat in the pool when Belarus substitute Pavel Savitskiy headed home with 10 minutes to go.

But Joachim's deflected dead-ball effort five minutes later ensured Luxembourg, who stay bottom of the group, took something from the...

Mikael Lustig scored the only goal of the game as Sweden won for the first time in five outings with a 1-0 World Cup Qualifying Group A victory over 10-man Luxembourg.

Anthony Moris kept Luxembourg in the game in the opening 45 minutes with a string of fine blocks to deny Emil Forsberg, Marcus Berg and Martin Olsson but saved his best for first-half stoppage time when he brilliantly tipped Forsberg's shot around the post.

And the Sweden pressure finally told in the 57th minute when Lustig opened...
