Michael Essien joins Ronaldo, Maradona in having an 'interesting' statue

Having won the Champions League, four FA Cups, league titles galore and almost 60 caps for his country, it's only right that Michael Essien was given the esteemed honour of having a statue erected in his homeland of Ghana.

Created by a local artist, the homage to the ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid star was unveiled recently in the city of Kumasi.

As you can see, the sculptor responsible for this peerless work has managed to capture Essien's essence and likeness perfectly: C-3PO in a Chelsea shirt.

Picking a Ghana Star Sixes Dream Team

The ongoing Star Sixes legends tournament in London has brought together some of sport's greatest names from the last 20 years to contest a competitive six-a-side tournament at the O2 Arena.

For the inaugural event, Nigeria were Africa's only representatives, but considering what a success the tournament has been, don't be surprised to see another - potentially extended - edition next year.

In 12 months' time, we'd love to see greater African representation at the world's only competitive six-a-side...

Dom Dwyer enjoys dream debut as U.S. beats Ghana in Gold Cup warm-up

Taylor Twellman looks at the U.S's possession vs. Ghana, while addressing their defensive frailties on the wings.

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The U.S. men's national team defeated Ghana 2-1 in an international friendly on Saturday. Here are three thoughts on the match.

1. Dwyer, Guzan,...

What did Ghana learn in Mexico defeat?

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah was left to reflect on several missed chances by the Black Stars after a 1-0 defeat by Mexico in an international friendly at the NRG Stadium in Houston.

Ghana went down to a first-half penalty to leave Appiah frustrated with a display that was high on chances but low on quality finishing.

The opportunities created would have pleased the Ghana boss, but there are also many failings which have highlighted the work ahead for the returning coach.

Asamoah Gyan - Goals, Glory and Controversies

It has been a typical Asamoah Gyan week ... he hit a major landmark, then took the shine off himself with one act.

In a Black Stars career that has spanned 14 years, no player has done more to thrill, annoy, win hearts, lose many, and confound us the way he has ... and continues to do.

When Gyan met Thomas Agyepong's cross at the near post to put Ghana in front in the 2019 Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia on Sunday, it was the 50th time he had scored for the senior national team. He knew the...
