Germany should have defended Mesut Ozil from 'racist attacks' - DFB president

German Football Association (DFB) president Reinhard Grindel said on Sunday he should have been more supportive of Mesut Ozil when the midfielder was the target of "racist attacks."

Ozil, 29, announced his international retirement last month after Germany crashed out of the World Cup. He said he had faced "racism and disrespect" because of his Turkish roots.

Ozil, who had been a key member of the 2014 World Cup-winning side, had faced a barrage of criticism for having his photograph taken with...

Juventus' Sami Khedira: Germany's World Cup exit 'still weighs on me'

Manuel Neuer insists despite the stressing nature of Germany's World Cup exit, the playing group must move on.
Former West Germany striker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes Germany's preparation was not up to scratch ahead of the World Cup.
Jurgen Klopp tells ESPN FC's Mark Ogden that although he respects Mesut Ozil's decision not to play for Germany, neither side appears entirely in the right.

Germany midfielder Sami Khedira said he is still bothered by the national team's exit from the World Cup in the group stage.

Khedira, 31, won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 but was among a number of players who were sharply criticised for their performances in June.

It was Germany's earliest exit at a World Cup in 80 years and it left the national team future of several players, including Khedira, in doubt.

"After a good season and nine goals with Juventus and with full fitness, I played my...

Philipp Lahm heads Germany bid to host Euro 2024 tournament

World Cup winner Philipp Lahm will head the Euro 2024 organisation if the German bid wins, the country's football association (DFB) have said.

Lahm, who captained Germany to success at the 2014 World Cup and has since retired, is currently a bid ambassador, with the German candidacy competing against Turkey for Euro 2024. UEFA are set to pick the winning bid on Sept. 27.

"It was my wish from the start of my activity as ambassador for the Euro 2024 bid to take over long-term responsibility," the...

Germany down 14 places in FIFA world rankings; France up to No. 1

Manuel Neuer insists despite the stressing nature of Germany's World Cup exit, the playing group must move on.
Former West Germany striker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes Germany's preparation was not up to scratch ahead of the World Cup.

Germany's exit in the group stage of the World Cup has seen them plummet to 15th in FIFA's world rankings -- their lowest position in more than a decade.

The defending World Cup champions entered the competition No. 1 in the rankings, but they failed to reach the knockout rounds and made their earliest exit from the tournament in 80 years. They were ranked No. 22 in March 2006 but finished the year ranked No. 6 after finishing third at the World Cup.

France are top of the rankings after winning...
