Nigeria beat Equatorial Guinea to top Group C, Libya through

Nigeria beat Equatorial Guinea 3-1 in Agadir to top African Nations Championship Group C and advance to the quarter finals alongside Libya, who struck in second-half stoppage time to take Rwanda's place in the final eight.

Salisu Yusuf's side top the group on seven points after second-half goals from Anthony Okpotu, Dayo Ojo and substitute Rabiu Ali overturned Equatorial Guinea's first-half advantage, while Libya advance alongside them on six points after Elmutasem Abushnaf struck in the 93rd minute.

Thierry Manzi header sends Rwanda past Equatorial Guinea

Rwanda defender Thierry Manzi scored the only goal of the game as the Amavubi beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in their second African Nations Championship match to set up a Tanger showdown with Libya.

Defeat eliminates Equatorial Guinea, who were beaten 3-0 by Libya in their opener, and puts Rwanda in control ahead of their winner-takes-all bout with the North Africans on Tuesday.

The Amavubi will progress to the quarter finals with a draw, while Libya need to win. Nigeria will be progress unless they...

Libya ease past Equatorial Guinea at CHAN

Libya served a stern warning to their African Nations Championship Group C opponents as two first-half goals from Saleh Taher Saeid and a late strike from Zakaria Alharash saw them ease past Equatorial Guinea in Tanger on Monday.

The 2014 CHAN champions delivered one of the most impressive performances of the tournament so far to assert their title credentials and swat away an Equatoguinean side that was short of quality.

Equatorial Guinea were punished for using an ineligible player.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- The Equatorial Guinea soccer federation appeared at sport's highest court Thursday in an effort to overturn their exclusion from the 2019 Women's World Cup in a case of a player's forged documents.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport said Equatorial Guinea's appeal hearing seeks to annul a ban from the 2018 and 2020 Women's Africa Cup of Nations. The 2018 tournament is Africa's qualifying route for the World Cup in France.

Gabon's sacking of Jorge Costa is history repeating itself in Africa

Gabon's coach head Jorge Costa makes a point from the sideline during their African Cup of Nations Group A soccer match against Equatorial Guinea in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015.
Gabon sacked Jorge Costa just months before the African Nations Cup, a surprisingly common move from African federations.

The firing of Jorge Costa by Gabon just 70 days before they host the African Nations Cup continues a sorry tale of panicked and knee-jerk decision making by African football federations. Changing the coach so near to a major event is nothing new to the continent. But, sadly, it has rarely produced the desired results and on most occasions achieved little more than highlighting the foolhardiness of trigger-happy officials.

Gabon's new coach will be Jose Antonio Garrido, who does have some insider...
