Russian club release Congolese defender after fan protest

Torpedo Moscow cancelled the contract of defender Ervin Botaka-Yoboma on Thursday, after a group of ultras protested his re-signing in a series of racially motivated online posts.

The 19-year-old centre-back, who is a Russian citizen of Congolese descent, and a graduate of the club's youth academy, had returned to the club less than a week ago.

However, after Torpedo announced his signature, members of the Zapad-5 ultra group took to social media site VK to protest against the player's return [as...

Barel Mouko the penalty villain as Libya oust Congo

Experienced Congo-Brazzaville goalkeeper Barel Mouko missed the only spotkick of the shootout as Libya won 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to advance to the African Nations Championship semi finals.

Libya, who advanced as runners-up behind Nigeria in Group C after beating Rwanda at the death in their final group game, took the lead in the 15th minute through Saleh Taher after Mouko parried a cross into his path.

However, Congo responded through Junior Makiesse, when the AC Leopards de Dolisie...

Congo stun Cameroon in CHAN opener

Cameroon's African Nations Championship campaign got off to a poor start as Congo-Brazzaville's Junior Makiesse struck a second-half penalty from which the Indomitable Lions never recovered.

Rigobert Song's Cameroon had enjoyed the better of the contest when goalkeeper Jean Oscar Gwot brought down substitute Vieljeux Prestige Mboungou in the 70th minute,

The Congolese attacker, breaking through on the counter, had initially taken the ball away from himself with a heavy touch. However, Gwot was also...
