Jose Mourinho 'surprised' Belgium chose to play Marouane Fellaini

Jose Mourinho feels a big atmosphere like Anfield will enhance his Man United's motivation.
Jose Mourinho is not playing into the hype surrounding Man United's next match versus Liverpool.
Marouane Fellaini was forced off after 29 minutes in Belgium's WCQ clash at Bosnia-Herzegovina with an apparent knee injury.

MANCHESTER -- Jose Mourinho has said he was "surprised" by the decision to play Marouane Fellaini in Belgium's meaningless World Cup qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The FC panel debate whether Belgium can win the World Cup or merely prove to be an entertaining side in Russia.

Eden and Thorgan Hazard jokingly told Belgium teammate Michy Batshuayi he "wouldn't touch the ball" when they played together for their country earlier this week.

The brothers were in the team for the World Cup qualifier against Cyprus on Tuesday -- the first time Chelsea star Eden and younger brother Thorgan, who plays for Borussia Monchengladbach, had both started for their country.

The ESPN FC crew discuss whether Belgium can win the World Cup.

Rene Vandereycken hasn't forgotten the day he named Jan Vertonghen in the Belgium squad for the first time.

"A French-speaking journalist turned to his Dutch-speaking colleague and asked: 'Jan Vertonghen, who is that?'", Vandereycken -- Red Devils manager from 2005 to 2009 -- recalled this week.

In the French and Flemish regions of Belgium, Vertonghen, who had spent the season on loan at Dutch club RKC Waalwijk from Ajax, was a complete unknown ahead of his international debut against Portugal...

How Belgium can be seeded at the World Cup finals for Russia 2018

Steve Nicol says FIFA are fixing a system that isn't broken by deciding to seed every team for the 2018 World Cup draw.

Belgium have had one of the most promising squads in world football for a number of years, and at one point topped the FIFA World Ranking. They have already qualified for next year's finals, and now will look to secure a place among the seeds.

Russia will be seeded as hosts, and joined by the top seven qualifiers based upon the October FIFA World Ranking, which is published after the next round of qualifiers.

So how can Belgium be one of the eight top-seeded nations in the Dec. 1 group-stage...
