Robert Prosinecki won't return as coach of Azerbaijan

Robert Prosinecki is out as coach of Azerbaijan.

Robert Prosinecki has left his post as coach of the Azerbaijan national team after his contract was not renewed.

The Azerbaijan football federation said in a statement that Prosinecki and the federation leadership decided by mutual consent not to seek a new deal.

The former Real Madrid and Croatia player had been in charge since December 2014, when he replaced Berti Vogts.

Prosinecki led Azerbaijan to their best-ever record in World Cup qualifying with 10 points, but that was still well short of...

Leon Goretzka inspired Germany to a 5-1 rout over Azerbaijan as the defending champions wrapped up their World Cup qualification campaign in style.

The Schalke midfiedler's brilliant backheel sent the hosts on their way to victory at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion in Kaiserslautern on Sunday.

Sandro Wagner also continued his fine form by scoring his fifth goal in five caps as Germany topped Group C, having already booked their chance to defend the trophy at next summer's World Cup in Russia.

Stuart Dallas' stoppage-time strike earned Northern Ireland a smash-and-grab 1-0 success over Azerbaijan that kept them firmly on the road to Russia.

Missing eight players from the squad they took to France, and without Gareth McAuley for the final 65 minutes due to a first-half injury, Michael O'Neill's side struggled in the Baku heat and were thankful to the profligacy of Afran Ismayilov.

And they secured an unlikely victory when Dallas rifled in a late winner, his first in a competitive international,...

Andre Schurrle scored twice as Germany extended their perfect start in World Cup qualifying Group C to five games with a 4-1 win over Azerbaijan in Baku.

Preferred by coach Joachim Low to Arsenal's Mesut Ozil in the starting lineup, Schurrle hit his side's first and last goals in the 19th and 81st minutes after Dima Nazarov had briefly dragged the hosts back level.

Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez also scored at the end of the first half to virtually secure the Germans' passage back to the finals in...

Germany maintain perfect campaign, Jermain Defoe strikes in England win

Germany survived a first-half wobble to defeat Azerbaijan 4-1 and maintain their 100 percent record in World Cup qualifying.

It seemed to be plain sailing for the 2014 winners when Andre Schurrle put the visitors ahead on 19 minutes, meeting Jonas Hector's pass to hit home, but Azerbaijan were soon back in it.

Dimitrij Nazarov's right-footed effort beat Bernd Leno to surprise the Group C heavyweights, but parity did not last long.

Schurrle found Thomas Muller and the Bayern Munich ace...
