Australia's Sam Kerr is on the three-player shortlist for the Asian Women's Player of the Year, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Saturday.

Kerr was controversially excluded from the final list of nominees for FIFA equivalent award in September, despite a stellar season for the Matildas and Perth Glory. Japan's Saki Kumagai and Sung Hyang-Sim of North Korea are also on the shortlist, but Kerr is the front runner to win the top prize.

Melbourne City have brought Matildas legend Melissa Hudson out of retirement, stocking up on goalkeeping quality to avoid another W-League debacle.

City head into Friday night's Melbourne derby off the back of a 4-1 routing by Sam Kerr's Perth Glory.

With first-choice goalkeeper Lydia Williams yet to link up with the squad, rotten luck hit City when second-choice custodian Emily Shields broke her wrist in the warm-up.
