Transfer Rater: Balotelli to West Ham

Manchester United remain interested in Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon - sources

Paul Mariner feels Luke Shaw can still make a big impact under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Manchester United are still in the hunt for Ryan Sessegnon but there is a growing feeling at Old Trafford that the teenager would prefer to stay in London if he decides to leave Fulham, sources have told ESPN FC.

United are long-term admirers of 17-year-old Sessegnon, who can play at left-back, left midfield and left wing, along with a host of other Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Tottenham

Fulham insist Sessegnon, who made 25 appearances in the Championship last season, is not for sale but United will continue to monitor his situation at Craven Cottage, despite believing his preferred destination is Tottenham if Fulham decide to cash in on their £25 million-rated prospect before the transfer deadline on Aug. 31.

Sessegnon, who grew up in Roehampton in south-west London, has been an ever-present for Fulham in the Championship this season and has been capped by England at under-16, U17 and U19 level.

After finishing sixth last season, Fulham have made a disappointing start to their league season, drawing three and losing one of their first four games.

Jose Mourinho is still keen to bolster his squad before the close of the transfer window but admitted last week his hopes of a fourth summer signing were fading.

He has splashed nearly £150m to bring Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof to Old Trafford.

Ryan Sessegnon has become an important player for Fulham after making his breakthrough last season.

United have been linked with wingers Gareth Bale and Ivan Perisic. Mourinho, however, suggested ahead of the 4-0 win over Swansea at the weekend he would prefer a wing-back rather than an out-and-out wide man.

Danny Rose, who is set for talks with Tottenham about his future this week, would fit the bill. Sessegnon would represent a cheaper but more inexperienced option if United can get Fulham to sell and convince the defender to snub Tottenham's advances.

United, meanwhile, expect to re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The striker was released at the end of last season after suffering a knee ligament injury, but the 35-year-old is ready to re-join the club by signing a short-term deal until the end of the campaign with the option of an additional year.
