Amine Chermiti explains Etoile du Sahel return

Tunisia forward Amine Chermiti has returned to his homeland after nine years away, signing a two-year deal with Etoile du Sahel.

The 29-year-old left the Ligue Professionnelle 1 for Hertha Berlin in 2008, and in an interview with local radio station MFM, has outlined why he decided to return to North Africa.

"Simply, I have found my family," the attacker told MFM [as per GlobalNet]. "I've signed because I was convinced by the sporting project.

"I will have [a role] on the pitch, but also beyond it," he added. "With the experience of these last few years, I think I can be able to mentor several of the team's young players."

The Sfax-born attacker grabbed the attention when he scored eight goals en route to the CAF Champions League title in 2007.

His form in that tournament earned him a move to Hertha Berlin, and while he struggled to establish himself in Germany, he enjoyed greater success with FC Zurich following a loan spell with Ittihad Jeddah.

He briefly represented Gazelec Ajaccio in 2016, before joining Kuwaiti side Al Arabi.

Chermiti has represented Tunisia at four Nations Cups, and won CAF's Africa-based Player of the Year award prize in 2007.
