Mohamed Larbi is a free agent after Sochaux confirmed that they'd cancelled his contract in a statement on their official website on Wednesday.

The Tunisia international joined the Montbeilard-based club during the January transfer contract, signing an 18-month deal upon his arrival in the Doubs.

However, he departs after six months, having made just 13 appearances for Sochaux in Ligue 2, and failing to find the net.

"An amicable agreement has been reached between FC Sochaux-Montbeliard and Mohamed Larbi in order to end the contract between the two parties - which had been due to run until the end of the season - with immediate effect," read an official comminque.

"The 29-year-old Tunisian midfielder played 13 league games with FCSM between February and March 2017.

"The club wishes Mohamed Larbi good progress."

Larbi made his debut for Tunisia in March 2016, but was overlooked by Henryk Kasperczak for the Carthage Eagles' Africa Cup of Nations squad earlier this year.

The Soliman-born midfielder is a product of the Nantes academy, having learned his trade alongside Dimitri Payet, and moved to Tunisian heavyweights Esperance early in his career.

He subsequently featured for Compiegne, Saint-Pryve Saint-Hilaire FC, Lucon and Gazelec Ajaccio before signing for Sochaux.
