Newly promoted Ligue 1 side Amiens are planning to sign Gael Kakuta from Hebei China Fortune, according to reports in the French press.

The Democratic Republic of Congo international moved to the Chinese Super League in 2016, but struggled to settle, and spent the second half of last season on loan with Deportivo La Coruna.

According to L'Equipe, Hebei China Fortune would be willing to part ways with the former France youth star as they look to free up one of the foreign-player spots in their squad.

The French source report that Amiens have approached Kakuta's encourage to discuss a potential move, with Christophe Pelissier keen to make the 26-year-old his team's key attacking player.

Despite earning €4 million per year in China, the forward is understood to be keen on a move away from the Far East, and would be willing to terminate the remainder of his contract in order to sign for a new side.

However, the former Chelsea man, who has struggled for stability throughout his career, is unwilling to leave the club on another loan.

Kakuta moved to Stamford Bridge from Racing Club de Lens in a controversial move in 2007, with Didier Drogba quickly identifying the youngster as his protégé in West London.

However, Kakuta went on to make just six league appearances over the next six years, and enjoyed mixed fortunes on loan with Fulham, Dijon, Vitesse Arnhem, Bolton Wanderers, Lazio and Rayo Vallecano.

Despite signing a four-year deal with Sevilla in June 2015, Kakuta would stay in Spain for eight months, making two league appearances before moving to China.
