Danny Hoesen signs permanent deal with San Jose Earthquakes

Major League Soccer: Danny Hoesen (49') San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 Portland Timbers

Forward Danny Hoesen will stay with the San Jose Earthquakes after completing a permanent transfer from Dutch club FC Groningen on Friday.

San Jose used targeted allocation money to complete the deal for the 26-year-old, who provided five goals and five assists while on loan with the Earthquakes in 2017.

"We're very happy to have come to an agreement with his former club to bring Danny back on a permanent transfer," Earthquakes GM Jesse Fioranelli said in a statement. "Securing his services for 2018 and beyond was a priority for us as soon as last season came to an end.

"He was a positive influence on our locker room and a steady contributor throughout the season. We're looking forward to him showcasing his talent to the league once again next year."

Hoesen made 32 appearances in MLS, including 20 starts last season. He also scored three goals in as many starts in the U.S. Open Cup.

The former Netherlands youth international will join a formidable attacking line that also includes Chris Wondoloski and new signing Magnus Eriksson, but which saw Marco Urena depart in the expansion draft this month.
