Montreal Impact's Laurent Ciman 'shocked' by LAFC move - agent

Laurent Ciman had expected to spend the rest of his career with Impact.

Laurent Ciman was "shocked" to learn he had been traded to Los Angeles FC by the Montreal Impact on Tuesday, after expecting to see out his MLS career in Quebec, his agent has said.

Belgium international Ciman, 32, will swap Canada for California for the forthcoming MLS campaign with LAFC"s expansion draft picks Raheem Edwards and Jukka Raitala moving in the opposite direction.

Laurent Ciman is headed to Los Angeles FC after Tuesday's trade.

Los Angeles FC acquired the Montreal Impact's Laurent Ciman in a trade for two players the new MLS club acquired in the expansion draft hours earlier.

Montreal will receive defenders Jukka Raitala and Raheem Edwards, whom LAFC selected with its final two picks in the draft from Columbus and Toronto, respectively.

Ciman, 32, was named MLS defender of the year in 2015 and helped Belgium qualify for the World Cup this year.

Montreal Impact defender Laurent Ciman has told Belgian media he hopes to extend his MLS stay beyond 2018.

Montreal defender Laurent Ciman leaves training on crutches

Laurent Ciman was injured in training on Thursday.

Montreal Impact defender Laurent Ciman left training on crutches after suffering an ankle injury on Thursday.

The reigning MLS Defender of the Year, Ciman was hurt while blocking a shot by Anthony Jackson.

The club told the Canadian Press the 30-year-old would be examined by doctors, and it was too early to know if the injury is serious.

An Impact spokesman told MLSsoccer.com on Friday that Ciman was "walking on his own feet" and is day-to-day.
