Perth Glory striker Adam Taggart sidelined with hamstring injury

Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts preview all the upcoming matches in the Australian A-League.

Star Perth striker Adam Taggart appears set for a stint on the A-League sidelines after injuring his hamstring at training.

Taggart had to be carried off the field by two people after suffering the injury during the last play at Thursday's training.

The club will assess the injury further before making an announcement on Taggart's availability, but it appears almost certain the fringe Socceroo will miss Sunday's clash with the Phoenix in Wellington.

Taggart has a history of groin problems. Last season, he missed five rounds with a calf injury.

Glory coach Kenny Lowe tried his best to downplay the latest injury setback.

"He felt his hammy was tight. So we just made sure we check it out and see how it goes," Lowe said.

"It's not perfect [for this to happen] but it opens the door for somebody.

"He scored a lot of goals last year and he's scoring goals this year.

"I think he's in the best place he's ever been [fitness wise], so I don't think he's got a problem [with being injury prone]."

Taggart has scored three goals in five games this campaign, and his likely absence will be sorely felt on Sunday as the fifth-placed Glory try to snare their first away win of the season.

Wellington will be without key duo Michael McGlinchey and Andrew Durante.

The pair are on international duties for New Zealand, who take on Peru in a two-legged World Cup qualification playoff.

Adam Taggart has scored three goals in five appearances this season.

Wellington were hammered 3-0 last week by the Jets to sit bottom of the table with just two points from five games.

But Lowe said the Phoenix would provide a formidable challenge for his side, especially at home.

"They've been in a lot of games. They had a chance to go 4-0 up against Brisbane and it didn't quite materialise for them," Lowe said.

"I saw them in some other games where they drew when they should have won.

"The league is a really tight. Melbourne Victory haven't won, but are they a poor team? No, they're not.

"It's the nature of the league at the moment. Anybody can beat anybody."
