Kevin Trapp unsure of PSG future as he targets Germany World Cup spot

Alexandre Lacazette scored two but Lars Stindl rescued the draw late for Germany.

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp says that he must be playing regularly over the second half of the season if he is to go with Germany to the World Cup in Russia next summer.

Trapp, 27, played the full 90 minutes for Germany in a 2-2 friendly draw with France in Cologne on Tuesday and has now played more minutes for his country than for club this campaign, as he remains firmly behind Alphonse Areola in the pecking order for PSG.

"I am happy to have been able to play," Trapp told journalists in the mixed zone after the match. "I wanted to repay the coach [Joachim Low] for his confidence in me. Playing me was not the obvious option.

"I will do everything to go to the World Cup. However, it is complicated for me right now. I am working each day to be ready.

Trapp revealed that Emery has not made it clear whether or not he will play in PSG's domestic cup games and addressed recent rumours linking him with a move to Borussia Dortmund.

Kevin Trapp has played more minutes for Germany than for PSG this season.

"As far as the World Cup is concerned, I absolutely have to be playing," Trapp added. "I do not know if I will play for PSG in the domestic cups, we have not spoken about that yet. If I am not going to play, I will need to think.

"I really need to play because the national team coach has insisted that I need to be performing with my club.

"I need to ask myself questions, reflect and speak with the club. However, for now, I am at PSG and not Dortmund or anywhere else. My head is with PSG, I have a five-year contract and I am going to give everything."

Low was impressed by Trapp's showing against France and was surprised he did not look rusty because of his recent lack of action.

"He was very good and I am very happy for him," Low said. "We felt good with him, even if he has not been playing for a few months.

"He reacted well on three or four occasions. It was a big performance and he exuded serenity. My compliments."

PSG are back in action at home to Nantes in Ligue 1 this weekend before facing Celtic in the Champions League and Monaco, as well as Troyes, before the end of the month.

Trapp's first taste of competitive action with PSG this season could come in the Coupe de la Ligue clash away at Strasbourg next month.
