Amaju Pinnick replaces Kwesi Nyantakyi as CAF Vice President

NFF President Amaju Pinnick was named Vice President of the Confederation of African Football on Thursday, according to a statement on CAF's official website.

Pinnick replaces Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former President of the Ghana Football Association, who resigned last month in the wake of corruption allegations sparked by an undercover investigation in his homeland.

A statement signed by CAF General Secretary Amr Fahmy said CAF President Ahmad Ahmad made the appointment after consultation with the Emergency Committee

"This decision is immediately applicable, in accordance with article 27 para. 2 of the Statutes, which will be ratified by the Executive Committee in its session scheduled on the 27 and 28 of September 2018," read Fahmy's statement.

With the appointment, Pinnick becomes the first Nigerian to hold the second highest executive position at the continental body.

Of his predecessors, Oyo Orok Oyo was second Vice President before being named as an honorary Vice President, while Amos Adamu was an executive committee member.

Pinnick's elevation comes in the wake of a crisis back home in Nigeria, where a court order has supported Christopher Giwa's claim to be the rightfully elected president of the NFF.

The latter subsequently took charge of the federation's HQ.

The NFF have challenged the ruling, and the case is scheduled to come up for hearing on July 10.
