LAFC signs Steven Beitashour, Luis Lopez as squad build continues

Toronto FC defense
Steven Beitashour has been signed by expansion LAFC ahead of the 2018 MLS season.

LAFC continues to make additions to its squad ahead of the team's inaugural season, adding MLS veteran Steven Beitashour and Honduras international Luis Lopez on Wednesday.

Beitashour, 30, was a free agent who played with MLS Cup champions Toronto FC in 2017. The defender has also played with the San Jose Earthquakes and Vancouver Whitecaps in his eight-year career.

John Thorrington, executive vice-president of soccer operations for LAFC, said: "We are pleased to add another veteran presence who will be a great example to our players with what he adds every day in training and in games. We trust he will make our fans proud."

Beitashour has two goals and 30 assists in his 192 career MLS appearances, and manager Bob Bradley said: "Steven is a valuable and versatile player who just won a championship in Toronto. He will help us build a winning culture in Los Angeles."

The 2018 expansion franchise also added 24-year-old Lopez from Real Espana of the Honduras league. Lopez was the starter for Honduras in the 2017 Gold Cup and also made the first XI for his country's 1-1 draw against the United States in World Cup qualifying last year.

Bradley said: "Luis is an athletic goalkeeper who is very good with the ball at his feet. He will bring great experience having played in big matches throughout his career."
