Wakaso Mubarak returns for Ghana but Ayews still absent

Mubarak Wakaso has been recalled by Ghana for their final World Cup qualifier against Egypt, but there is still no place for the Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan, in Kwesi Appiah's squad.

Columbus Crew defender Jonathan Mensah has also been dropped from the 23-man selection for the game in Cape Coast on November 12th.

With Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey suspended for the game because of two yellow cards, Wakaso has been handed a recall for the first time since Appiah replaced Avram Grant after the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Newcastle United midfielder Christian Atsu makes a return to the side after sitting out the previous qualifier with an injury, and there is also a return to the Black Stars fold for Godfred Donsah.

The Bologna midfielder receives his first call-up since being involved in the squad for the Wakaso-inspired victory over Rwanda in a Nations Cup qualifier over two years ago.

Appiah has also called up two debutants for the Egypt game, as Sweden-based former Ghana U-17 captain Nasiru Mohammed and midfielder Nana Ampomah, who plays his club football with Waasland-Beveren in Belgium, receiving their debut invitations.

While the Black Stars are already out of the running for next summer's World Cup after taking just six points from their first five Group E matches, they could move above Uganda into second with victory over Egypt.

The Pharaohs reached Russia - and their first World Cup since 1990 - when they beat Congo-Brazzaville in Alexandria earlier this month.
