Bayern Munich-Eintracht Frankfurt referee stands by decision to deny penalty

Eintracht Frankfurt defied the odds, overcoming Bayern to win their first major title since the 1988 German Cup and qualify for next season's Europa League.

Referee Felix Zwayer has told kicker he stands by his decision to deny Bayern Munich a penalty and a last-ditch chance to equalise in their 3-1 DFB Pokal Final defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt.

With Bayern trailing 2-1 in the final minute of added time, Eintracht's Kevin-Prince Boateng appeared to foul Javi Martinez in the penalty area.

Zwayer turned down Bayern's initial penalty appeals but took the opportunity to review his decision.

Niko Kovac said "football writes the best stories" after his Eintracht Frankfurt side beat future employer Bayern Munich 3-1 in a dramatic DFB Pokal final.

Kovac will take over as Bayern coach from the retiring Jupp Heynckes in the summer, but led Eintracht to their fifth German Cup success, but first since 1988, denying Bayern a 12th domestic double in Heynckes' final match in charge.
