Everton's Aaron Lennon thankful for support after trying year

Everton midfielder Aaron Lennon has thanked well-wishers for their support at the end of a year which saw him detained by police amid concerns about his mental health.

The former England international says he is now in "a great place'' and "loving each day like you should''.

Lennon received treatment for a stress-related illness after the incident in May, but has ended the year on a high, having also re-established himself with his club.

He wrote on Twitter: "2017 has been a year I'll never forget and there's so many people I wanna thank for making the year end in such a special way. I can't name everyone individually but you know who you are.''

He went on to pick out "family, friends, Everton, fans and everyone at the hospitals'' as well as "everyone at the Priory for being there for me through some tough times''.

Lennon said he would speak more about his return to health in 2018, and added: "With all your help I've managed to get myself in a great place and loving each day like you should.

"Also, learning so much about myself and learning how important the mind is and what I need to do to look after it.''
