Marcelo Bielsa: Leeds have 'observed' all opponents, but nothing 'illegal'

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa said on Wednesday his staff had been watching all the club's opponents in training this season, after the English Football League (EFL) launched a formal investigation into the "spygate" controversy.

"In a few words I can tell you we observed all the rivals we played against and we watched all the training sessions of the opponents before we played against them," Bielsa told reporters.

The English Football League launched a formal investigation on Tuesday after Derby County complained that Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa sent a spy to the club's training ground last week.

The incident happened the day before the Championship clubs met at Elland Road, a game which Leeds won 2-0.

The EFL have now written to Leeds requesting their observations after the Yorkshire club apologised to Derby and reminded Bielsa of the club's principles of "integrity and honesty."

Leeds United have made a formal apology and reminded manager Marcelo Bielsa of his responsibilities in the wake of the spying row that overshadowed Friday's 2-0 win over Derby.

Bielsa's side went five points clear at the top of the Championship but the coach admitted he made a mistake in sending a club employee to spy on Derby training leading up to the match.
