Deportivo appoint ex-Real Madrid, Milan star Clarence Seedorf as coach

Deportivo La Coruna have appointed Clarence Seedorf as manager, the struggling La Liga club announced on Monday afternoon just 32 hours after sacking Cristobal Parralo.

The former Real Madrid player, who becomes Deportivo's third coach this season and the club's fourth in the space of seven years, has signed a contract until the end of the season.

A club statement said: "The Dutch tactician Clarence Clyde Seedorf has this afternoon become the coach of Real Club Deportivo for the remainder of the season. After a brilliant career as a player at Ajax, Sampdoria, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Botafogo, he began his coaching career in 2014."

Deportivo, beaten 5-0 at Real Sociedad on Friday, sacked Cristobal Parralo 48 hours later.

Parralo had replaced Pepe Mel, who was dismissed in October, and mustered just two wins while losing eight of his 13 league games in charge.

The 41-year-old Seedorf returns to Spain where he played four seasons at Real Madrid in the 1990s and won a Spanish title and a Champions League crown among other trophies.

Seedorf coached AC Milan for 22 games in 2014 before a 13-game spell with Chinese League One side Shenzen FC, which ended in 2016.

Depor turned to Seedorf after their first two choices, ex-Deportivo defender Martin Lasarte and his Uruguay compatriot Diego Alonso, turned down the offer.

The Galician outfit are currently 18th in the standings, three points adrift of safety, and without a win in seven league games.

Seedorf will have one week before making his coaching debut, with the club set to host Real Betis on Feb. 12.
