Half-and-half scarf at Leicester-West Brom bosses begs question: why?

The half-and-half scarf is truly a curious beast.

To some, it's simply a memento of a particular fixture; to others, it serves as the manifestation of all that is wrong with modern football: the transient loyalties, the rampant commercialism, etc.

Just when you thought you'd seen football merchandise reach its nadir, Monday night's Premier League clash between Leicester City and West Brom coughed up a curious evolution of the game's most derided souvenir.

Presenting, the managerial half-and-halfer.

Arsenal rely on set pieces, Alexandre Lacazette to take 2-0 victory over West Brom

LONDON -- Three quick thoughts from Arsenal's 2-0 Premier League win over West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates on Monday night:

1. Arsenal win despite lack of quality

They say the sign of a good side is "winning without playing well," but few Arsenal fans will be fervently discussing the quality of their side on their way home on Monday. This was a nervous and unconvincing performance from the home side, who relied upon Alexandre Lacazette nodding home a rebound from Alexis Sanchez's free...

Jonny Evans decision highlights Arsene Wenger's fatal flaw at Arsenal

As debate swirls around Arsene Wenger's team selections, Paul Mariner gives us his preferred Arsenal starting XI.

Jonny Evans would have been the perfect signing for Arsenal, but just like Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, N'Golo Kante and several others whom Arsene Wenger supposedly almost signed, a deal was never done for the West Bromwich Albion defender.

Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic and Kante will always be held up as the biggest examples of "the ones that got away" during Wenger's long reign as Arsenal manager, and quite right too, considering their impact elsewhere having either been rejected by Wenger or...

Premier League appearance record a tribute to Gareth Barry's longevity, consistency

Saturday against West Ham marks Gareth Barry's 632nd league appearance, equalling Ryan Giggs' Premier League record.

History is not always made by the trendy. The Premier League can market itself as being about the glitz and glamour. Gareth Barry may seem the anti-Premier League football but when West Bromwich Albion against West Ham kicked off, it meant no one had made more appearances in the division's history.

Barry drew level with Ryan Giggs on 632. Giggs may have seemed a more fitting figure at the top of the leaderboard, the most decorated individual in the history of the Premier League's most successful...

Premier League grades so far: Man United get top marks, Arsenal flop

The FC panel respond to your tweets about the transfer deadline, struggles in Manchester and Arsenal's season outlook.
After Tottenham's draw against Burnley at Wembley, the FC crew debate whether the London ground is behind Spurs' struggles.

After a breathless opening fortnight, the Premier League now goes on hold to make way for another raft of World Cup qualifiers. So how did your team do? Iain Macintosh grades the entire division.

Perfect. An entirely unblemished record. Admittedly, this entirely unblemished record has been secured against some of the weaker teams in the league, but that's hardly their fault. Besides, if we all insist that the beauty of the Premier League is that, "anyone can beat anyone," then...

Gareth Barry and Darren Fletcher: the Premier League elder statesmen

Darren Fletcher (left) and Gareth Barry (right) are two of the Premier League's most battle-tested veterans.

When Darren Fletcher unexpectedly departed West Bromwich Albion this summer for Stoke City, West Brom manager Tony Pulis had an ideal replacement in mind. In Gareth Barry, 36, three years Fletcher's senior, Pulis signed just about the only player who might replicate his dependability and experience in central midfield.

"There was a big void when we lost Fletch, and Gareth will fill that void," Pulis said after Barry was signed last week. Between them, two of the Premier League's most...
