ESPN FC's worldwide editorial desks nominate their top performers from the weekend's action. Tottenham's talisman Harry Kane is this week's No. 1.

1. Harry Kane | Tottenham Hotspur

Why he's here: The Premier League's leading scorer added two goals and an assist to his season totals as Spurs throttled Liverpool 4-1 at Wembley on Sunday.

2. Sami Khedira | Juventus

Why he's here: The 30-year-old midfielder scored his first senior hat trick -- with two of the goals coming after Juve had been reduced...

Liverpool woe as Spurs march on, PSG pushed, Serie A intrigue, critical Mou

ESPN's Alison Bender and Stewart Robson discuss who City's closest title rivals are ahead of Tottenham's match with Manchester United.

I'm a big believer in "score effects." Give up an early goal -- or two -- and the way you and the opposition play changes dramatically; sometimes to the point that there isn't much more to learn from the game.

Liverpool made two huge errors in the first 12 minutes of Sunday's clash with Tottenham at Wembley and that was that. It wasn't just that they necessarily played into Spurs' hands because they had to get back into the game, it was the psychological damage done to the players on the pitch.

Hammers clash a big chance for Tottenham to highlight development

The ESPN FC crew discuss whether Tottenham are Manchester City's closest title rivals.

With Tottenham's confidence sky-high after a draw against Real Madrid and a 4-1 triumph over Liverpool in the past week, Wednesday's League Cup clash at home against West Ham looks an enticing opportunity to book a cup quarterfinal as well.

After all, while Spurs have won six of their last seven games, their London rivals go into this match on the back of a 3-0 home defeat against newly promoted Brighton, with Slaven Bilic under pressure.

First up was NBA royalty Kobe Bryant, who followed up his midweek jaunt to Paris Saint-Germain training with a trip to watch Spurs in action, coupled with a meet-and-greet with the entire squad.

Bryant wasn't the only superstar invited into the home dressing room, with the one and only Diego Maradona also dropping by...

Normal home service has been resumed. Helped by a Liverpool team intent on playing attacking football, Tottenham were back to their fluent best for the first time all season at Wembley.

Spurs took the lead inside five minutes, when Harry Kane took advantage of some hesitancy inside the Liverpool defence and went 2-0 up midway through the first half, when Heung-Min Son side-footed home Kane's inch-perfect cross. Liverpool came back into the game and pulled one back, but Dele Alli's volley moments...

LONDON -- After a 4-1 defeat away to Tottenham, one of the Premier League's most impressive teams, it would not be difficult to argue that Liverpool look as far away from challenging for the title as they ever have. They once again showed that they cannot defend convincingly -- throughout the team, not just as a back three or four -- and also lacked the invention required to hurt opponents as strong as Spurs.

Their substitutes' bench was distinctly underwhelming, filled with unproven youngsters,...
