Club America take No. 1 spot, Tigres drop to No. 2 in Power Rankings

Club America could still strengthen their squad before the end of the transfer window.

The Clausura is finally underway and a common theme throughout the first days was that several of the goalscorers were notable Mexican youngsters. Players like America's Henry Martin, Toluca's Alexis Vega, Pumas' Jesus Gallardo and Chivas' Javier Eduardo "Lalo" Lopez all scored goals.

Hopefully, this specific event becomes a tendency and not just a brief memory. Here are the Week 1 Power Rankings.

Nuevo Leon pair still top Liga MX, big things expected from new-look Cruz Azul

Tigres celebrate their 2017 Apertura title win over Monterrey.
Tigres hope to make it two in a row after lifting the Apertura title in December.

It feels like just yesterday that Tigres won their sixth Liga MX title at Monterrey's Estadio BBVA Bancomer, but the new season is only several hours from beginning. As was the case last season, only one manager of the 18 is from Europe; the only difference is that it's no longer Paco Jemez, but his replacement Pedro Caixinha.

Here's where each of the 18 Liga MX clubs start off in our weekly Power Rankings:

Oswaldo Alanis' contract issues remains an issue for Chivas heading into the Clausura.

The new year brings a new season in Liga MX, with Puebla and reigning champion Tigres kicking off the 2018 Clausura on Friday.

Here are five themes to keep track of in the months to follow.

1. Club America, Chivas to bounce back?

Club America and Chivas had very different 2017 Apertura tournaments but the uniting factor was the disappointment with which Mexico's two giants ended their respective campaigns.

Chivas went in as reigning champion and stalled en route to a 13th place regular-season...
