Liga MX W2W4: Five teams battle for three spots as playoff picture is finalized

Pachuca's win over Santos has given them life heading into the final weekend.
Pachuca need to beat Atlas and hope one of the teams above them falters to reach the playoffs.

There is still a lot to be decided as Liga MX enters its final weekend. ESPN FC's Liga MX correspondents Tom Marshall and Eric Gomez preview the must-see games on the final weekend of the Liga MX regular season.

Three playoff spots up for grabs

With Toluca, Santos Laguna, Club America, Monterrey and Tigres all already safely in the playoffs, only three other spots remain unclaimed.

Power Rankings: Toluca leapfrogs Tigres after beating Apertura champs

Maxi Perg celebrates after Toluca's 1-0 win over Tigres.
With a 1-0 win over previous leaders Tigres, Toluca is now on top of our Power Rankings.

MEXICO CITY -- Toluca has now gone 11 matches in all competitions without a loss. The last time the Diablos Rojos dropped a three-pointer was Valentine's Day, against Puebla.

Since then, they've stormed into the Copa MX final, and into first place of Liga MX, with 30 points in 14 games this season. The 1-0 win over Tigres, the defending champions (and prior Power Ranking kings) is also indicative of their chances to crown themselves in the playoffs.

Here are the Power Rankings for Week 14:

Power Rankings: Tigres grab top spot from Santos, Puebla's free fall continues

Tigres' frontline makes them the favorites in Liga MX regardless of the standings.
Andre-Pierre Gignac (center) and high-powered Tigres remain the favorites in Liga MX.

MEXICO CITY - The difference between regular season and playoff matches is always highlighted when describing the volatile nature of Liga MX.

Despite the inherent value of doing well during the first 17 games, it can all come crashing down once the postseason rolls around. Thus, a team's position in the league table can differ from their actual chances of winning the league.

This is precisely the criteria used to determine our Power Rankings, where Toluca leads the league table but frankly is...

Expectations high for Liga MX clubs in CONCACAF Champions League

Henry Martin has been a revelation with his five goals and two assists for Club America.

Expectations are unsurprisingly high for the Liga MX teams involved in this year's CONCACAF Champions League tournament. Since 2006, no club outside of Mexico's first division has won top honors in the CONCACAF competition. Whether it be in the "Champions Cup" or "Champions League" era, a Liga MX team always seems to finish with the title in hand.

This year, the responsibility of maintaining that streak from 2006 lies in the hands (and feet) of four Liga MX squads: Club America, Chivas, Tijuana...
