Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hits out as 50+1 rule retained

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hit out at the German Football League (DFL) after 18 of its 36 clubs voted to keep the 50+1 rule in the Bundesliga, saying it would harm European competitiveness.

The vote, which took place on Thursday, came after a motion tabled by second-tier club St. Pauli, and Rummenigge said the outcome would harm German clubs in continental competitions.

Premier League club Stoke City and 2. Bundesliga side St. Pauli have agreed a "long-term cooperation."

St. Pauli have allowed 200 people protesting against the G20 as it holds its summit in Hamburg to set up camp at their Millerntor stadium, with former head coach and current director Ewald Lienen joining a demonstration.

Deniz Naki given 18-month suspended sentence for 'terrorist propaganda'

Deniz Naki currently plays for Amed SK in the Turkish second division.

Former Germany under-21 international Deniz Naki has been given a suspended 18-month prison sentence in Diyarbakir, Turkey, for promoting "terrorist propaganda."

Naki, 27, was found of guilty on Wednesday and sentenced to serve 18 months and 22 days in jail, with the prison term suspended for five years.

The attacking midfielder, who played in the Bundesliga for St. Pauli, had been acquitted by the same court in Diyarbakir in November, but the prosecution appealed against the verdict.

U.S. winger Fafa Picault seals move to Philadelphia Union

U.S. international winger Fabrice "Fafa" Picault has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Union, the MLS club announced on Thursday.

Picault, 25, was released from his contract at second-tier German club St. Pauli on Tuesday after completing a trial with the Union.

His deal contains a club option for two additional seasons.
