Mouctar Diakhaby's stoppage-time header earned Valencia a 1-1 draw against Sevilla and prevented the Andalusians from moving provisionally top of La Liga on Saturday.

Pablo Sarabia's 55th-minute strike appeared to have sent the Andalusians above champions Barcelona, who face Espanyol later, but the draw took them second on 28 points, level with the leaders and third-placed Atletico Madrid.

A dull first half gave way to an exciting second with Tomas Vaclik making a good save to deny Valencia midfielder...

VITORIA-GASTEIZ, Spain, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Sevilla slipped off the top of La Liga on Sunday as they could only draw 1-1 at Alaves, whose comfortable protection of their unbeaten home record allowed champions Barcelona to climb back to the league's summit.

Alaves' winger Jony slammed the ball into the roof of the net from close range to give them the lead in the 37th minute, despite protests from Sevilla that Jonathan Calleri was in an offside position when he provided the cross for the goal.

On Friday night, the club that languished at the bottom of La Liga with a miserable six points just a year ago should have reached the top of Spain's Primera Division. That they fluffed their lines is just an anecdotal detail. By Saturday lunchtime, a club that should only really dream of being in la Liga, with the same dose of reality as a 5-foot-5 guy might dream of starring in the NBA, utterly thrashed the reigning European champions. Destroyed them, 3-0. It could have been double that.

Sevilla leapfrogged Barcelona and Atletico Madrid to go top of La Liga after they beat Real Valladolid 1-0 at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.

Andre Silva's eighth league goal of the season was enough to ensure the Andalusian club moved to the summit above Barca and Atletico, who drew 1-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.

The win means Sevilla -- whose sole domestic league championship came in the 1945-46 season will begin December as the leading team in La Liga.
