Matildas' star Sam Kerr finalist for top Asian player of 2017

Jason Dasey and Gary Phillips assess what Australia must improve upon ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
Australia won the inaugural Tournament of Nations with their third and most decisive victory of the competition over Brazil.
Australia's Mark Milligan and Bailey Wright recap a long qualifying campaign and what to expect from them at the World Cup.

Australia's Sam Kerr is on the three-player shortlist for the Asian Women's Player of the Year, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Saturday.

Kerr was controversially excluded from the final list of nominees for FIFA equivalent award in September, despite a stellar season for the Matildas and Perth Glory. Japan's Saki Kumagai and Sung Hyang-Sim of North Korea are also on the shortlist, but Kerr is the front runner to win the top prize.

The Wellington Phoenix have picked up their first win of the season by thumping Perth Glory five goals to two.

Wellington Phoenix let loose to down Perth Glory 5-2 and claim a first A-League win of the season in a thriller at Westpac Stadium.

Bottom of the ladder after three losses and two draws six weeks into the A-League season, coach Darije Kalezic has finally seen the game he wants from Wellington Phoenix.

Two goals from Serbian striker Andrija Kaludjerovic and three assists from stand-in skipper Roy Krishna were the obvious talking points for Wellington, but it was the team's character which pleased...

Perth Glory striker Adam Taggart sidelined with hamstring injury

Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts preview all the upcoming matches in the Australian A-League.

Star Perth striker Adam Taggart appears set for a stint on the A-League sidelines after injuring his hamstring at training.

Taggart had to be carried off the field by two people after suffering the injury during the last play at Thursday's training.

The club will assess the injury further before making an announcement on Taggart's availability, but it appears almost certain the fringe Socceroo will miss Sunday's clash with the Phoenix in Wellington.

A late goal from captain Andy Keogh saw Perth Glory overcome some brilliant Paul Izzo goalkeeping to beat Adelaide United 1-0 at nib Stadium.

Izzo looked set to earn Adelaide at least a point with a superb performance for the Reds. It began when he saved a Diego Castro penalty in the fourth minute.

Among his other saves was a brilliant effort to deny Adam Taggart but eventually Perth found a way past him.

Keogh's header got the job done in the 80th minute as Glory made it two from two at home.
