Perth Glory can 'be successful in the first year' under Tony Popovic

Can Australia make an impact at Russia 2018 under new coach Bert van Marwijk? Here's a look at how the Socceroos shape up.
The ESPN panel in London are skeptical of Australia ahead of the World Cup with Bert van Marwijk's defensive mindset and an aging squad.

New Perth Glory coach Tony Popovic has set himself the goal of leading the club to a period of sustained success, and he says there's no reason why they can't give the title a shake next season.

"We want to win things," Popovic said.

"We're not going to put a time frame on when that will happen. But we want to be a team that can be challenging for honours in year one, and why not?

"I don't think the team in the first year will be exactly what I want the team to be.

"But I'm not going to make an...

Tony Popovic confirmed as Perth Glory new manager

Will Tim Cahill re-ignite his local career in Australia with Sydney Olympic?

Perth Glory have made an enormous statement of intent by signing Tony Popovic as coach for next A-League season.

Replacing the sacked Kenny Lowe, Popovic has been out of a job since his ill-fated stint at Turkish side Karabukspor ended in December after just 10 weeks.

The 44-year-old had quit his post at Western Sydney Wanderers, who he had coached since their inception, on the eve of last season to take up the European opportunity.

Popovic will be officially unveiled at the Glory's awards night...

Brisbane Roar recruit Adam Taggart denies Perth Glory's 'liar' claims

Riley McGree's scorpion kick attempt stuns Melbourne City on route to a 2-1 win for the Newcastle Jets.

Adam Taggart has denied suggestions he kept Perth Glory in the dark about his move to A-League rivals Brisbane Roar.

In a statement released on his behalf by Professional Footballers Australia, Taggart said he had spoken with Glory owner Tony Sage, who labelled him a "liar" for turning his back on his hometown team in a furious Facebook rant.

Sage suggested Perth only found out about Taggart's departure when it was announced by the Roar on Tuesday morning, but the 24-year-old said club management...

CEO Peter Filopoulos exits Perth Glory to join Football Federation Victoria

The upheaval at Perth Glory continues, with chief executive Peter Filopoulos the latest confirmed departure from the A-League club.

Just four days after Kenny Lowe was sacked as coach, Filopoulos tendered his resignation on Sunday and will leave his post in May to take up his new job as chief executive at Football Federation Victoria.

Filopoulos' impending departure comes at a critical time of Glory's rebuild.

Most of the squad is out of contract, with Joseph Mills, Andreu Guerao and Jeremy Walker...

Perth Glory sack Kenny Lowe, manager since 2013, after missing finals

Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe
Kenny Lowe has been relieved of his duties as Perth Glory manager, a job he held since 2013.

Perth Glory's longest-serving coach Kenny Lowe has been sacked after failing to guide the side to the A-League finals this season.

Lowe, who had one more year to run on his contract, has been head coach since late 2013.

He will now move into a youth role at the club, where he is expected to be named technical manager at the Glory Academy.

Lowe's sacking comes just a day after Western Sydney Wanderers coach Josep Gombau was shown the door, and former Wanderers coach Tony Popovic could come into the...
