A string of superb saves from keeper Liam Roberts helped Walsall move clear of the drop zone as a 2-1 victory dealt a blow to Oxford's play-off push.

Roberts saved well from James Henry 10 yards out after 25 minutes then, two minutes later, made a stunning one-handed reflex stop to foil Wes Thomas' bullet near-post header.

Against the run of play, Walsall took the lead after 33 minutes as Luke Leahy drilled across the six-yard box for Amadou Bakayoko to bundle home.

Substitute Alex Mowatt made an instant impact as Oxford United made it back-to-back wins with a 1-0 victory over Blackpool.

Mowatt came off the bench in the 78th minute and his first touch was to send over a free-kick that Jon Obika met with a glancing header for the winner - his seventh goal of the season.

But the result was harsh on the Seasiders, who were denied by four fine saves from keeper Simon Eastwood.

Oxford missed a golden opportunity in the 10th minute when Gino van Kessel selfishly went...

Wes Thomas netted his first goal in six games to help Oxford to a 3-1 win over MK Dons.

U's top-scorer Thomas finished off a neat move begun by Jon Obika by turning in Gino van Kessel's pullback on 15 minutes.

It was Thomas's ninth goal of the campaign but his first since November.

Dons captain Alex Gilbey levelled 10 minutes later, heading in after George Williams flicked on Robbie Muirhead's corner.

But after Kieran Agard headed wide from another Gilbey-inspired Dons attack, and Obika struck the bar...

Bradford bounced back from two successive defeats with 3-2 home win over Oxford United.

Charlie Wyke gave the Bantams an excellent start with a goal in the second minute following a corner on the right by Paul Taylor. Goalkeeper Simon Eastwood saved but could not hold Shay McCartan's goal-bound header and Wyke hammered the loose ball into the net from 10 yards.

Bradford dominated the rest of the first half and only Eastwood prevented the home side from taking a handsome half-time lead as he saved goal-bound...

Conor Wilkinson's late equaliser earned Gillingham a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Oxford at Priestfield.

Oxford looked on course to respond to Saturday's 7-0 home thrashing at the hands of league leaders Wigan in style when Ricardinho put them ahead in the 52nd minute with a deflected effort from the edge of the box.

However, substitute Wilkinson equalised three minutes from time, firing home from close range after the U's defence had failed to clear a corner.

The former Bolton striker almost won the...
