Telkom Knockout provides latest chance for silverware

After the international break, South African football returns to domestic matters this weekend with the start of the Telkom Knockout, the second of three cup competitions in the season.

Cape Town City lifted the first piece of silverware last month when they won the MTN8, with the failure of the so-called 'Big Three' to lift that trophy putting the Telkom Knockout into sharper focus.

Kaizer Chiefs' are desperate to end their well-documented club record barren run that is stretching close to three-and-a-half...

The Absa Premiership table that does lie: Points per game log

The 2018-19 Absa Premiership season is shaping up to be an intriguing tussle for a trophy seemingly 'no-one wants' as none of the 16 teams in the elite league have managed to find any consistency to pull ahead in the title race.

The South African championship has almost exclusively been fought out between a handful of clubs in recent years, but this campaign any number could emerge from the pack with a good run of fixtures.

The only goal of the game came in...

Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns held to scoreless draws on a barren night in PSL

Title contenders Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns were both held to 0-0 draws in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday, on a night where just two goals were scored in four games.

Pirates were held at home by Lamontville Golden Arrows, while Mamelodi Sundowns could not break down a stubborn Bloemfontein Celtic in their clash in the Free State.

At the Orlando Stadium, Pirates handed a debut to Brazilian full-back Caio Marcelo da Silva, who took his place on the right side of the defence.

Micho backs Munetsi to bounce back at Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic is backing out-of-favour Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi to eventually battle back into the team.

Munetsi has found his playing time curtailed since the start of the campaign, with matters turning so desperate that he now spends more time twitching his fingers on the terraces than he does trying to influence play on the pitch.

It is a far cry from the second half of last season, when the versatile 22-year-old emerged from nowhere to become...
