Atlanta United signs defender Franco Escobar from Newell's Old Boys

Relive all Atlanta United's spectacular goals during their inaugural season in MLS.

Atlanta United has signed defender Franco Escobar from Argentine side Newell's Old Boys, the club announced on Friday.

Escobar, 22, will be a discovery signing for the club pending the receipt of his international transfer certificate.

"Franco is a physical and versatile defender, capable of playing anywhere along the back line," Atlanta technical director Carlos Bocanegra said of the signing.

"He's a young player who has already featured often in the Argentina Primera Division and he brings a level...

Mauricio Pochettino remembers old roommate, idol Diego Maradona, fondly

Paolo Bandini and the FC crew react to Tottenham's signing of Davinson Sanchez and discuss the options he gives Pochettino.
Victor Wanyama says Tottenham won't be out for revenge against Chelsea at Wembley. Wanyama was speaking at Leagoo's unveiling as Spurs' official mobile phone partner.

Mauricio Pochettino still struggles to find the right words in English. The Tottenham manager has been discussing the problem of signing players and competing with Spurs' wealthier English rivals, topics he has no difficulty articulating. Pochettino joined Newell's as a teenager after the club's then-manager Marcelo Bielsa travelled to his hometown and, the story goes, inspected the youngster's legs in the dead of night.

He played for the club for five years before moving to Espanyol in 1994, and the 45-year-old has spent the rest of...

Maxi Rodriguez pays special visit to avid Newell's fan on her 105th birthday

Maxi Rodriguez paid a visit to a very special Newell's Old Boys supporter last week, when he dropped in on the club's oldest fan on the occasion of her 105th birthday.

In his role as team captain, Maxi showed up at a birthday party being thrown in honour of Tati Rodriguez (no relation) to pass on the club's best wishes.

He also furnished her with a couple of gifts, specifically a pair of customised Newell's shirts -- one with his name and number on the back and another that commemorated Tati's incredible...
