Newcastle Jets winger Joey Champness a doubt for start of A-League season

Newcastle Jets winger Joey Champness could miss the start of the A-League season after suffering a fractured foot.

The 21-year-old was injured while challenging for the ball at training in what the club described as a fairly innocuous incident.

Champness will be sidelined for between eight to 10 weeks, meaning he may not be fit in time for Newcastle's season opener away to the Wellington Phoenix on Oct. 21.

The Jets will already be without striker Roy O'Donovan for the first chunk of the season...

Jack Duncan heading for Newcastle Jets exit after transfer clause triggered

Riley McGree's scorpion kick attempt stuns Melbourne City on route to a 2-1 win for the Newcastle Jets.
ESPN FC's Shaka Hislop explains why he doesn't see Usain Bolt's six-week A-League trial as anything more than a piece of commercialism.

Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Jack Duncan will leave his A-League club immediately to join an unnamed overseas club.

The Jets have accepted a "significant" transfer fee for the 25-year-old after a transfer clause was triggered in his contract.

Duncan will immediately leave Newcastle's preseason training camp in Spain to join his new club.

Coach Ernie Merrick said he was disappointed to lose Duncan but respected his decision.

"He's a great team man and well-respected member of this club, his engagement...

A-League uphold Roy O'Donovan's 10-week ban for kicking Lawrence Thomas

Riley McGree's scorpion kick attempt stuns Melbourne City on route to a 2-1 win for the Newcastle Jets.

The second-longest A-League ban in history will stand after Newcastle Jets striker Roy O'Donovan failed in a bid to have his 10-week sentence reduced.

O'Donovan had lashed out wildly in the dying minutes of this year's Grand Final against Melbourne Victory, kicking keeper Lawrence Thomas as he attempted to connect with a cross.

The incident earned him an instant red card as his side succumbed 1-0 at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Replays did the Irishman no favours, the kick clearly striking Thomas, who...

Newcastle Jets' Roy O'Donovan given 10-match ban for kung-fu kick

Roy O'Donovan has been handed the second-biggest A-League ban of all time, the Newcastle striker copping 10 matches for his Grand Final kung-fu kick on Melbourne Victory's Lawrence Thomas.

Football Federation Australia's disciplinary and ethics committee took a hard-line stance following three days of deliberation since Tuesday night's marathon hearing.

The Jets immediately said they would appeal, privately shocked O'Donovan has been handed two matches more than Kevin Muscat received in 2011 for...

Newcastle Jets sign Matthew Ridenton from Wellington Phoenix

Midfielder Matthew Ridenton will come back under the A-League tutelage of Ernie Merrick after leaving the Wellington Phoenix for the Newcastle Jets.

In a blow for the Kiwi-based club, Ridenton signed a two-year deal with Merrick's Jets, who finished runner-up this season.

The 22-year-old All White enjoyed a breakthrough 2017-18 season, playing all but one game for the Phoenix and consistently being among the better performers at the struggling club.

Box-to-box midfielder Ridenton has scored four...
