Nick Ansell returning to Melbourne Victory 'a better player'

Melbourne Victory signing Keisuke Honda is excited for the challenge of Australia's physically demanding brand of football.

They say you should never go back but Melbourne Victory defender Nick Ansell is hoping for happy returns at his former A-League home.

The centre-back has joined the Victory on a two-year deal after his stint with Portuguese club Tondela was cut short.

Ansell chose to come home a year into his contract after a confluence of events necessitated his return.

The 24-year-old has lost count of how many times he's been asked why he chose to come back.

"Yeah there's a stigma but it doesn't bother me," he...

Melbourne Victory's Georg Niedermeier ready to follow in Matthieu Delpierre's footsteps

Usain Bolt is set to feature heavily in the Central Coast Mariners preseason friendly.

Without even having kicked a ball for the club, Melbourne Victory is already in the veins of Georg Niedermeier.

The 32-year-old defender has played with Victory alumni Matthieu Delpierre, Mitchell Langerak, Robbie Kruse and Marco Rojas while at Stuttgart in Germany's Bundesliga.

He and Delpierre, one of the greatest defenders that Victory or the A-League has seen, are particularly close, and the Frenchman's endorsement went a long way to convincing the German to head down under.

"He came back and...

Emily Gielnik makes W-League switch from Brisbane Roar to Melbourne Victory

North Carolina Courage avenged their 2017 NWSL Championship defeat to Portland Thorns with a dominant victory in Portland in the 2018 final.
Tournament of Nations: Sam Kerr (16') Japan 1-2 Australia

Matildas attacker Emily Gielnik has ended a nine-year association with the Brisbane Roar to sign with W-League rivals Melbourne Victory.

The 26-year-old has played for the Roar since 2009 but has opted for a change of scenery and will link up with her former coach Jeff Hopkins at Victory.

Capped 20 times for Australia, Gielnik shapes as a handy addition for a Victory outfit that hasn't qualified for the W-League finals since cross-town rivals Melbourne City entered the competition.

City have since...

Newcastle Jets sign Mitch Austin from Melbourne Victory

The Newcastle Jets have signed Mitch Austin from Melbourne Victory for the upcoming A-League season.

27-year-old Austin made 24 appearances for the Victory across two seasons, scoring four goals, but he missed most of last season after tearing his ACL.

In 2015/16 Austin scored five goals in 23 appearances for the Central Coast Mariners. Austin has also spent time in England with clubs such as Cambridge United, Lincoln City and Southport.

Jets coach Ernie Merrick said Austin has the ability...

Melbourne Victory announce signing of Ola Toivonen on two-year deal

Melbourne Victory have pulled off another transfer coup, convincing Swedish striker Ola Toivonen to join the A-League champions.

Toivonen has signed a two-year deal with Kevin Muscat's side from French club Toulouse. The 32-year-old will travel to Melbourne in the next fortnight to link up with his new teammates.

"Ola brings proven quality to our attack and he will play a big role in leading our forward line this season," Muscat said.

"He is exactly the kind of player we wanted to recruit, he is...
