UEFA gives Celtic's Leigh Griffiths one-game ban after Linfield provocation

Leigh Griffiths was banned after tying a Celtic scarf in the goal against Linfield.

Leigh Griffiths has been suspended for the first leg of Celtic's Champions League third qualifying-round clash against Rosenborg after UEFA took action against the striker and the club.

Griffiths received a one-match ban for "provoking supporters" at the end of their win over Linfield, who have been hit with a partial closure of their stadium for their next European game after the striker was pelted with missiles, in the first leg of the previous round.

Celtic have also been sanctioned with three...

Celtic booked their place in the Champions League third qualifying round as expected with a 4-0 trouncing of Linfield at Parkhead to go through 6-0 on aggregate.

The Hoops led 2-0 from the first-leg against the Northern Irish part-timers at Windsor Park on Friday night and the return encounter was even more one-sided with Scott Sinclair's fourth-minute goal no reflection on the first 45 minutes.

The goals came more readily after the break as midfielder Tom Rogic, who like Sinclair had scored in...

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths faces further disciplinary action on top of his bizarre Belfast booking after being accused of "provoking" Linfield supporters.

UEFA has opened a case against Griffiths over his actions at the end of Celtic's 2-0 Champions League win at Windsor Park on Friday.

The Scotland international, who was earlier pelted with missiles including a glass bottle, tied a Celtic scarf to a goalpost.

The European governing body has also instigated disciplinary action against Linfield...

Celtic continue their run through Champions League

On Wednesday, Celtic look to complete the job they started on Friday by beating Linfield at Celtic Park. Goals from Scott Sinclair and Tommy Rogic helped the Hoops take control of this second qualifying round Champions League tie and it would take a brave man to bet against them this week. It wasn't a vintage Celtic display but they proved they are a level or two above the Northern Irish...

Celtic took the first step towards the Champions League with a comfortable 2-0 win over part-time Linfield at Windsor Park.

The Parkhead club had refused their ticket allocation for the first leg of the second qualifying round clash in Belfast due to safety fears.

However, there were around 300 Hoops fans in the Kop stand, set aside for them in a half-full stadium, to see attacker Scott Sinclair head Brendan Rodgers' side ahead in the 17th minute before midfielder Tom Rogic made it 2-0 five minutes...
