Celtic, Steaua through to Champions League third qualifying round

Ronny Deila's Celtic will now face Azerbaijani champions Qarabag in the Champions League third qualifying round.

Celtic eased past Stjarnan in the return leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie, but not before an early scare against the Icelandic part-timers.

The Hoops travelled to the tiny Samsungvollur stadium with a 2-0 advantage from last week's first leg in Glasgow but found themselves under some unexpected pressure after only six minutes when Olafur Karl Finsen shot the home side into a shock lead.

However, midfielder Nir Bitton eased the nerves when he levelled in the 32nd minute from...

Ludogorets lose, APOEL held as second round of qualifying begins

Adam Gyurcso's goal was enough for Videoton to defeat TNS in their first leg on Tuesday.

Two of last season's Champions League group-stage underdogs got off to a rough start in the first leg of the second qualifying round on Tuesday.

Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad, who beat Basel and held Liverpool to a draw a year ago, lost at home to Milsami 1-0.

Alexandru Antoniuc scored the only goal for the Moldovan champs in the 41st minute.

Meanwhile, Cypriot champions APOEL, quarterfinalists in 2012, were held to a goalless draw at home by Vardar of Macdeonia.

The news was a little better...

Maciej Skorza has Lech Poznan poised to claim the 2014-15 Polish Ekstraklasa.
Maciej Skorza has Lech Poznan poised to claim the 2014-15 Polish Ekstraklasa.

Here is a nice trivia question for you. Who was the first coach to have beaten Pep Guardiola at the start of his career at Barcelona in the summer of 2008? It might be tempting to name the wily Croat Sergio Kresic, who masterminded the famous Numancia win over Barca at the start of the season in Spain, but the right answer lies elsewhere. Maciej Skorza is the man -- his Wisla Krakow drew the Catalans in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, were thrashed 4-0 at Camp Nou, but proceeded...
