Tsepo Masilela one of five released by Kaizer Chiefs

South African giants Kaizer Chiefs have announced the exit of five players from the club, including stalwart former Bafana Bafana left-back Tsepo Masilela, despite being without a coach.

Another left-sided defender with national team experience, Sibusiso Khumalo, is also out the door, along with injury-prone midfielder Keagan Buchanan, winger William Twala, and miss-firing Zimbabwe forward Edmore Chirambadare.

"We are terminating the contracts of Twala, Buchanan, Chirambadare and Khumalo," Chiefs...

Kaizer Chiefs' tortuous search for new coach could run on

While Premier Soccer League rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates make key acquisitions to their squad, Kaizer Chiefs remain in limbo without a coach just a little over a week before they are due to return for pre-season training.

A feature of Chiefs' struggles in the past few seasons, which has seen them go trophyless since 2015, has been a shambolic transfer policy that has failed to deliver dividends, and it appears they are equally troubled in appointing a coach to replace Steve Komphela.

Khuzwayo joins a short list of players to switch between Soweto giants

The movement of players directly between Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates has been something of a rarity over the last five decades, though Brilliant Khuzwayo added to that list when he joined the Buccaneers yesterday.

Khuzwayo, who had spent the last six seasons mostly on the bench at Naturena behind first-choice Itumeleng Khune, was one of nine new signings unveiled by Pirates.

Orlando Pirates announced nine new signings

Orlando Pirates have confirmed the capture of goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo from bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs among nine new recruits named by the club on Monday.

Khuzwayo was expected to leave Naturena at the end of last season, having had to play second fiddle to incumbent Itumeleng Khune, but is something of a rarity as a player who has moved directly between the two clubs.

He will bring some solidity to their goalkeeping department, which has struggled in recent years as Wayne Sandilands, Siyabonga...

Kaizer Chiefs are cutting off their nose to spite their face

It may have got lost among the outcry following Ajax Cape Town's relegation from the South African top-flight 'via the boardroom', but Kaizer Chiefs had their own bit of significant news filtering through on Tuesday.

The Amakhosi powers-that-be have taken the decision to call off the club's annual awards ceremony after a 2017-18 season in which they yet again failed to lift any silverware, lost their coach and, most shockingly, saw their supporters almost destroy Moses Mabhida Stadium
