Bundesliga waiver denied for Holstein Kiel because of small stadium

Holstein Kiel's Holstein-Stadion is too small to host Bundesliga games, the DFL has ruled.

The German Football League (DFL) has denied Holstein Kiel a special licence to play in their 10,000-capacity Holstein-Stadion should they win their first promotion to the Bundesliga because their ground does not meet top-flight standards.

Germany's most northern club have appealed the decision, but now could be forced to play their home games away from home.

Having only won promotion to 2. Bundesliga last summer, Holstein have qualified for the relegation/promotion playoffs on May 17 and May 21....

Cologne hire Markus Anfang as coach for next season

Markus Anfang will be the next coach of Cologne.

COLOGNE, Germany -- Relegation-troubled Cologne have appointed Markus Anfang as coach for next season, when the club will most likely be playing in Germany's second division.

Cologne, last in the Bundesliga with four rounds remaining, say the 43-year-old Anfang, a native of the city, will switch from Holstein Kiel along with assistant Tom Cichon for the 2018-19 season. Both signed three-year deals.

A number of Eintracht Frankfurt fans set fire to Darmstadt flags during December's Bundesliga derby game.

Eintracht Frankfurt have been punished by the German Football Association [DFB] with a partial stadium closure, with the Bundesliga club among eight clubs from the upper three tiers hit with fines amounting to a total of €195,750 for fan misbehaviour.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the DFB fined Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart, Holstein Kiel, Wolfsburg, Hamburg, VfR Aalen, Werder Bremen, and Frankfurt due to the actions of their supporters.
