Chivas kick off the 2018 Apertura in very different shape than fans would've hoped for and expected 14 months ago, when the Guadalajara club hoisted title No. 12 to make it a league and cup double in the 2017 Clausura.

The championship was supposed to herald a brighter future for the side, closing the book on relegation problems and providing evidence that an all-Mexican squad could compete for titles in an increasingly foreigner-dominated Liga MX.

Matias Almeyda: I wouldn't refuse job offer to manage Mexico or Argentina

Sebastian Salazar and Herculez Gomez assess Mexico's World Cup after a last 16 exit and discuss why Liga MX could be a hindrance on El Tri's future.
Sebi Salazar sounds off on why he can't be proud of Mexico after a seventh straight World Cup exit in the last 16, even against a team like Brazil.

Matias Almeyda would not turn down the chance to manage Mexico or his native Argentina, should the opportunity arise in the coming weeks.

The 44-year-old former River Plate player and manager left Liga MX side Chivas last month after a successful period in charge culminated in winning the CONCACAF Champions league back in April.

Almeyda has continued living in Guadalajara since departing the club and would likely be one of the options should Juan Carlos Osorio's contract with El Tri not be renewed.

Chivas face huge risk in replacing Matias Almeyda with Jose Saturnino Cardozo

Jose Saturnino Cardozo is introduced as Chivas manager.
Jose Saturnino Cardozo was introduced as the next Chivas manager on Tuesday.

New Chivas coach Jose Saturnino Cardozo was presented on Tuesday, ending a tumultuous week for Mexico's most popular team in which their manager, sporting director and star player all exited.

"Whoever says he's not excited by coaching Chivas is telling a lie," said Cardozo, the former Paraguay international who scored more than 250 goals in Liga MX with Toluca. "I'm happy to be here, to have the possibility to coach a big club. We have a great fan base who will be expectant of what we can do."

Chivas hire Jose Cardozo as coach to replace Matias Almeyda

Chivas named Jose Saturnino Cardozo as its new coach on Tuesday to replace to Matias Almeyda.

Almeyda told ESPN Mexico on May 31 he was stepping down from his post at the Liga MX club and made the move official on Monday. He leaves after winning five titles in almost three years at the helm.

Cardozo is the 25th different coaching change made at Chivas since Jorge Vergara became owner of the club in late 2002, but the new boss said he's up to the challenge.

Mexico's Rodolfo Pizarro joins Monterrey from Chivas

Sebastian Salazar and Herculez Gomez discuss what Rafael Marquez would offer Mexico if he makes Juan Carlos Osorio's 23-man squad.
Sebastian Salazar and Herculez Gomez reflect on Rafael Marquez's contributions to El Tri and how he might fit into Juan Carlos Osorio's World Cup plan.

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Chivas forward Rodolfo Pizarro has signed for fellow Liga MX side Monterrey, confirmed Chivas sporting director Francisco Gabriel de Anda on Sunday.

Pizarro, who scored 15 times in 56 appearances for Chivas, missed out on the World Cup with El Tri, but was a key figure in Chivas winning the 2017 Clausura Liga MX title and the CONCACAF Champions League last April and is considered one of the best Mexican players in Liga MX.
