Defoe's deal is a home run for him but not for Bournemouth's future

Paul Mariner feels Jermain Defoe's move to Bournemouth is a great move for both club and player.
Jermain Defoe's no.1 fan Bradley Lowery has sadly passed following his brave battle with cancer.

Jermain Defoe's time in North America was so brief that he may not have understood Major League Soccer, let alone Major League Baseball. He left Toronto FC in 2014 after making 19 appearances and scoring 11 goals so quickly that he probably never got a taste for the city's baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays.

The ESPN FC crew discuss Tottenham, their transfer targets and whether they can compete in the market.

Josh King is something of a rarity, the teenage prodigy who became a late developer. At 25, Bournemouth's Norwegian forward is at the most important crossroads of his career.

Determination helps Bournemouth defy the odds during exciting season

Despite flirting with the possibility of relegation briefly in January and February, the Cherries were never in serious danger in what fans will look back on as a great season.

Rating out of 10: 9

Highlight

Despite obviously securing Premier League football for a third consecutive season, the main highlight of the season was witnessing the astonishing 4-3 comeback victory against Liverpool on Dec. 4.

Steve Cook's volley to equalise before Nathan Ake drove home the winner in the 93rd minute will...

Stanislas' goal leads Bournemouth to milestone top-half finish

Bournemouth ended the 2016-17 campaign in decent fashion with a 1-1 draw against last season's champions Leicester City at their own ground. The Cherries' away form has been mediocre at best this season, but the point secured at the King Power stadium earned them a place in the Premier League's top 10. It might be insignificant to the rest of the division, but to Eddie Howe and his team it's another standout moment in the club's growing history.
